Presentation Summary

DNA repair enzymes continuously scan the DNA and replace any damaged nucleotides. Most types of DNA repair depend on the presence of a separate copy of the genetic information. Most of the damage to DNA is excised by one of the two major DNA repair pathways, namely Base excision repair and Nucleotide excision repair. Other critical repair systems include Non-homologous end-joining and Homologous recombination. The molecular mechanisms of the latter repair system along with the main proteins involved in its regulation and disease caused by their dysfunction are the main topics of this lecture.
